Profile of Hitomi Fukai, an artist specializing in face painting and body art

Hitomi Fukai manages DecoDeco, Japan’s first group of professionals specializing in face painting and body art.
She and her group engage in a wide range of activities, from producing TV commercials to participating in expos, various sporting events, and parties held by overseas brands. She also plans and develops products for use in face painting and body art and trains artists in these fields.
She advocates facepainting as a form of “healing art” that acts through touching the skin. Besides holding facepainting seminars for children and their parents, she actively carries out volunteer programs, visiting facilities for disabled persons and group homes for the elderly.

1999: Formed DecoDeco, a performance unit. The group has appeared in street performances, events, and parties, etc., doing face and body paintings, nail art and henna tattoos (“Mehndi”).
2002:  Established the Yokohama Facepainting Association and held facepainting seminars. During the FIFA World Cup Soccer tournament, she offered face painting at the ten cities throughout Japan that hosted the matches. Besides appearing at events and parties, she has produced TV commercials, made TV appearances and taken part in a wide range of activities.
2007:     She re-named the Yokohama Face painting Association to the Japan Facepainting Association and turned it into a specified nonprofit organization. She was inaugurated its representative director.
She became the first Asian representative to take part in the Face and Body Art International Convention 2007, and became a Masters Level champion.
2008:     Took part in the Face and Body Art International Convention 2008 and became the runner-up in the Juried Competition.
Participated in the World Bodypainting Festival held in Austria and South Korea.
Lectured at a Body Art Diploma Seminar in Japan, participated in by fifteen members, including Directors of the Asia Facepainting Association and university professors.
2009:   will hold 'Japan Face Painting & Body Art Show 2009' on September.18-22 in Yokohama Japan. This is aiming to cooperate with Memorial Theme Event of Yokohama Open Port for 150 Years, here on known as 'Open Country Port Y150 Memorial'.
