In the 1990's, I experience face painting by following the tracks of my friend Olivier Zegers, an already famous face painter. It leads me first to the Brussels International Fantasy Film Festival, then to Bicolline, a huge live action role-playing game in Canada, where two of my favourite hobbies are combined: fantasy and make-up.
>From kids' birthday parties to make-up festivals, from marketing events to Halloween creatures, make-up becomes gradually a real job. I also participate in the face and body-painting contest at the BIFFF, which I both win in 2006. This kind of event is the right place to imagine new characters.
In 2004, I set up a non-profit association of body Artists, "Etincelle" (Sparkle). With Caroline Trefois and Houyam Hajlaoui, our aim is to put forward our creative skills and figure out new practice fields. As today, body art is no longer a technical side-discipline - which is make-up -, but a discipline in itself, an art form that speaks for tself. I would place it between the Plastic Arts (for the skill) and the Performing Arts (for the temporary side and the model acting).
This art form - probably the most ancient one - has still its best days ahead...
